RAVE exhibited at TSIS 2018 earlier this month and our president, Sara Blackmer, sat on the Big Data Analytics Panel Wednesday afternoon.

Big Data Analytics Panel Moderator was Dr. Denise Nicholson of SOAR Technology and the panelists were Dr. Liz Gehr ofThe Boeing Company, Sara Blackmer of RAVE Computer and David Gagliano of GDIT Global Solutions. The panel focused discussion around how and where analytics and high performance computing (HPC) is being used in the defense training and simulation industry today and what opportunities and challenges we might encounter while implementing more AI and HPC applications.

The focus of the overall TSIS conference this year was on providing insight into DOD Training Community opportunities forthcoming in the near to mid future. read more

Rick's Reflections
Rick Darter, Co-founder and CEO

With Dot.com and Y2K both driving the computer industry in the late 1990’s, these were booming times – the good ole days, before liability lawyers and when all of our vendors tried to out boondoggle each other. We worked hard and played hard. I will share an example.

The best memory is one where I took my dad on a four day trip to the 15th fairway at Pebble Beach watching the 2000 PGA US Open. We were guests at the private residence of Sun Microsystems founder Scott McNealy. My dad was a semi pro golfer in his younger years and held a low handicap into his 60’s. Each day we were there Dad was able to receive private lessons from the Pebble Beach pro’s. He talked about this the rest of his life.

On New Year’s Eve 1999, I remember watching the ball drop in places on the other side of the earth waiting to see if the dire Y2K predictions of mass computer failures were going to happen. It was predicated that these failures would crash systems controlling critical infrastructures – everything from banking to national security to traffic lights. Finally, it was Happy New Year in New York City. We were all waiting for the news reports about what had crashed and what it had affected. It turned out that nothing happened, not anywhere, not a single dire prediction came true; it was all media hype, sound familiar? We had all of our technicians on call waiting for something to happen; luckily they were then able to relax and have fun with their friends and family. The upside to Y2K paranoia was that fortunes were made in the build-up, so not all bad. read more
