This past August, RAVE, in collaboration with John Brabbs at TARDEC, presented a whitepaper titled “Advanced Performance Computing Power For Large Data Set Processing” at the GVSETS conference. The paper summarizes the efforts at the CASTLE lab (Continuous Autonomy Simulation Test Laboratory Environment)(see image below) within TARDEC, in setting up a simulation environment for virtual testing of robotic autonomous systems. The lab is being used for development of a leader-follower system of multi-vehicle convoys. RAVE worked with TARDEC to specify a custom rack of computers including short-depth 4U rackmount chassis with a custom cooling system, optimized for low latency and high throughput while still being upgradable in the future.

The paper discusses the following:

  • The challenges of real world robotic and autonomous systems testing and how this solution addressed a large number of those challenges.

  • How virtual testing provides a complement to real world testing.

  • Details of the simulation environment processing hardware.

RAVE will be participating in SC18 in Dallas, TX, November 12-15. Exhibiting at booth 726, we will be featuring our new RENDERBEAST, fully populated with four dual-width GPUs, as well as our 4U server (see image below) powering multiple demos on our 2x2 array.

SC18 is the international conference for high performance computing, networking, storage, and analysis. This year’s conference and exhibition will continue the emphasis on education and best practices that deliver leading-edge insights to HPC users.

The theme for this year’s SuperComputing conference is “HPC Inspires.” Join RAVE at this year’s show as a community of scientists, engineers, developers, system administrators, educators, students, program managers, CIOs, and policy makers once again gather for this annual event.

You won’t want to miss our booth - Learn how we can take your HPC performance to the next level!

RAVE attended the 3rd annual AI Summit in San Francisco in September.  Attended by over 4000 delegates, this conference brought together leading AI innovators from tech giants like Microsoft, IBM, Facebook and Google, alongside some of the most inspiring start-ups, consultants, and innovators.   The AI Summit provided RAVE with the opportunity to hear how AI is being implemented across all industries and business functions, creating exciting opportunities for us to deliver high-performance computer hardware solutions in this rapidly growing market.

Rick's Reflections
Rick Darter, Co-founder and CEO

RAVE started offering a “RAVE Systems” brand in the late 1990’s. It was the beginning of our evolution into what RAVE is today and where we will go in the future.

RAVE Computer’s core competency starting from the very beginning in 1988 is computer hardware/software integration; we are experts at optimizing configurations to operate at the highest level of performance. We understood then and now that “one size does not fit all”.  The performance of identical computers will vary depending on industry, applications used, networks, file sizes/types and the environments they are operating within. Our best and most loyal customers understand the difference and benefit in measureable ROI as result.

In the early days of the computer industry it was common that computer OEM’s developed their own proprietary operating systems and computer hardware. Then they were not compatible with other vendors’ systems. It was ultimately a fatal strategy as most of those companies did not survive far into the 2000’s if they made it even that far. Examples include Burroughs, Commodore, Digital Equipment Corp (DEC), Data General (DG), Prime Computer, Sperry, Sun Microsystems and Xerox to name a few.   read more

The new Nvidia Quadro RTX series of graphics cards are NVIDIA’s fastest workstation cards yet, and they're set to begin shipping this quarter. This is a ray tracing technology that brings real-time, cinematic-quality rendering to content creators, game developers.

They are built on the latest Turing GPUs from NVIDIA and are also the first NVIDIA cards to feature GDDR6 memory. Turing is an evolution of the Volta architecture, improving on everything that makes the GV100 great. The new NVIDIA RT core combined with the Tensor cores inherited from Volta provide the resources necessary to drastically speed up ray-tracing, reducing the amount of work needed to render each frame of a photorealistic video. As with NVIDIA's Quadro GV100, pairs of NVIDIA Quadro RTX cards can be linked with NVLINK allowing them to share video memory. While this incurs higher latency than accessing local memory, it is much faster and lower latency than the PCIe bus.   read more

The United States Federal Government has recently decided to move forward with a $200 Billion dollar tariff on goods imported from China.  It seems that the tariffs will directly affect all RAVE Computer products imported from China. The impact may differ from product to product and we will do our best to inform our customers as we find out more and how it will affect pricing. Additionally, as of September 24, all PNY Technologies products that are manufactured in China have a 10% tariff applied to them. The tariff will affect all GeForce and Quadro Graphics Cards and the price of these cards will be going up by approximately 10%. This tariff does not affect inventory that is already in the U.S.
